Introduction & Overview (02:54) - First, we get a brief look at the broad aspects and nature Arturia's virtual recreation of the iconic sampler and synthesizer, the CMI. Fairlight's original instrument was revolutionary in its time and shaped the way music was produced, and Arturia's take on it gives the original period-accurate sound, as well as added usage to make it fit into today's workflow.
The User Interface & Basic Operation (05:29) - To start digging into the CMI V, we get acclimated to the instrument's interface. Then, we take a tour and get an initial understanding of the basic layout, so that we can then elaborate and expand to the specifics of each part in detail.
The Sound Page (08:04) - The Sound Page is where we set the parameters to get the basis of all sounds in the CMI V. There are three sound modes in the Control Tab, but here we will be covering the common elements between them before differentiating more in later videos.
The Sound Modes Pt. 1 (12:13) - Here we look deeper into the Sound Page, now getting even further into the multiple tabs of the Sound Page to edit and control the sounds. For this part, we mostly focus on the Sampling Mode.
The Sound Modes Pt. 2 (08:27) - Let's continue in the Sound Page looking through the multiple tabs to edit and control the sounds. For this part, we mostly focus on the Time Synth Mode.
The Sound Modes Pt. 3 (12:30) - Now we explore the Sound Page, looking through the multiple tabs to edit and control the sounds. For this part, we mostly focus on Assigning sources to controls, the Functions, and how they can relate to the Spectral Synth Mode and elsewhere.
The Sequencer Page (07:25) - Now see how to use the CMI V's rhythmic sequencer to program all sorts of patterns, from arpeggiations to drum loops.
The Mixer Page & Effects (10:09) - In the mixer page, we can fine tune the outputs of our several layers, mixing them differently and adding whatever of the provided effects will best compliment the overall sound.
The Tune/Map Page (05:01) - In this video, we see the additional output options found in the Tune/Map page of the CMI V where we can set keyboard splits and things of that nature.
Preset Management & the Browser (06:55) - Here, we take a closer look through browser and its extensive collection of exceptionally digital sounds, as well as see how we can add and manage our own presets.
Sound Design Pt. 1 (07:48) - Discover some possibilities for sound design in the CMI V and put together a few versions of some different sounds in the different Slots, from drum kits to basses.
Sound Design Pt. 2 (09:21) - Here, we continue to use our knowledge of the CMI V to put together a few versions of some different sounds in the different Slots available in a preset. Then, layering all the sounds together, we get a thick pad sort of sound.
Conclusion (07:40) - Wrapping it up, we'll touch on a few more things and ideas for our example, and then have a quick review of all that we've seen in the CMI V, plus some closing remarks for this loving recreation of a classic instrument.
