Mixing with Neutron 5 Explained

Join mixing guru Larry Holcombe for a thorough look at mixing with the tools included in iZotope's Neutron 5 mixing plug-in. In this series, Larry takes you through the process of solving various trouble spots, enhancing sounds, applying processing, and more using the various components of Neutron 5, sharing many tips along the way and helping you achieve pro-sounding mixes quicker than ever before. These videos are designed for new Neutron 5 users.

Videos
Introduction & Initial Mix Fixes (15:30) - This video introduces the series and also employs Neutron 5 to help fix the phase on a layered kick drum. We also look at fixing waveform asymmetry using the new Phase module.
Stereo Bus & Unmasking the Vocal (16:18) - Next up, we use Neutron 5's compressor to create a stereo bus compression setting to help enhance front/back perspective and groove. We also carve space in the mix for the vocal using the Unmask module.
Transient Shaping & Gating (13:43) - We enhance the track's transients next for maximum punch and also remove some headphone bleed to clean up the vocal.
Manipulating Punch & Stereo Width (12:15) - This video is concerned with managing transients in mid/side mode to create separation between different mix elements.
EQ (15:16) - Next up, we implement an EQ strategy to clear space and set front/back perspective. We also use track assistant to create a vocal channel strip.
Compression (15:42) - This video covers the strategy for setting groove and front/back perspective using musical release times in milliseconds set against the bpm of the track. We use fast or slow attack times to set sounds back or bring them forward.
Saturation & Parallel Processing (15:56) - We cover adding in musical saturation next, allowing us to thicken sounds up and also musically round off transients to give our master bus dynamics less work for a louder master.
Clipping & Basic Master Chain (14:44) - In this final video, we demonstrate using layered clippers in Neutron 5 to control transients and dynamics. We also create a basic master chain using Neutron 5 to pull the track together.
