Cubase 14 New Features & Updates Explained

In this Cubase 14 video course with Cubase wiz Gary Hiebner, you'll get the lowdown on all that's new and shiny in version 14—from the major additions like new plugins and instruments to other practical things like workflow improvements and the like. By the end of this Cubase course, you'll be well-versed in the new features and ready to begin using them on your very next production. These videos are for users new to Cubase 14.

Videos
Updates to the MixConsole & Lower Zone (04:00) - Starting off this video series, we show you the updates to the MixConsole in the Lower Zone and how you get a full view - where you can see all your faders, inserts, and sends all together in one zone. (You can also re-order your tracks in MixConsole now.) We finish off the video showing how you can use key commands to open up and close your inserts slots.
Using the LFO Modulator (05:31) - In this video, we start looking at how to add a modulator and assign it to an instrument parameter. For demonstration purposes, we show how to use the LFO Modulator and assign it to a synth's filter cutoff. We also explore the different parameters on the LFO Modulator and see how to assign it to multiple parameters.
Other Modulators: The Shaper (03:27) - Explore the Shaper Modulator and see how you can draw in your own curves to create your own unique-shaped modulator waveform. You'll also see how to change the wave shape and step count.
Envelope Follower as a Side-chain Modulator (05:08) - In this video, we see how to use an envelope follower as a side-chain input source for the modulator and tweak the envelope shape for different effects.
Using the Step Modulator (04:56) - Here, we look at the Step Modulator and see how it acts like a step sequencer. Instead of shifting pitches, however, you'll be assigning the step sequence to a parameter that you want to modulate.
Mod Scripter Modulator (08:04) - Next, we dive into the Mod Scripter Modulator and see how you can either use the included script or even code out your own scripts to modulate parameters. This opens up a lot of customization with you being able to use java-based scripts in the modulator.
Using the Macro Modulator (05:03) - Discover how you can use the Macro Modulator to assign multiple parameters to one knob. You can even link another modulator to the Macro Modulator.
Volume Plugin & Modulating It (05:48) - Here, we examine the new Volume plugin and show how you can automate it and then use your track volume as the master volume. We also see how we can use modulators with the Volume plugin.
Maxing Out the Modulators (04:50) - Learn how you can max out a track with modulators. On a single track, you can have up to 8 modulators, and on each modulator, you can have up to 8 assignments. See what happens when you go wild with modulator assignments on a track!
Volume Curve Editing (07:43) - Take a look at the new Volume Curve editing and see how you can use this to adjust the volume levels on your events.
Range Tool Selection Updates (05:16) - In this video, we look at the updates to the Range Selection tool, such as being able to select tracks and nudge them or using range selection and slip editing all your tracks.
Drum Track & Drum Machine (13:00) - See how to create a new Drum Track and then load up different synthesized drums, add samples, and tweak the available parameters.
Using the Pattern Sequencer (12:55) - Explore the new Pattern Sequencer and see how you can use it to build patterns for your drum tracks, use some of the randomization features to make your patterns more human, and move your patterns across to the Arrangement.
New MIDI Functions: Velocity Reliance & Playing Probability (06:07) - Watch how to add variance to your velocity levels and also adjust the playback probability to add greater variations in your patterns.
Media Bay Previewer Updates (04:47) - Now with the Media Bay Previewer, you can change both the playback speeds and the pitch of the audio when you preview it with your song.
Shimmer Reverb (10:19) - Take a close look at the new Shimmer Reverb plug-in, including the user interface and all the parameters. Then hear how you can use the Shimmer Reverb on your tracks and incorporate modulation, reverb, and pitching with the reverb on this plugin.
Studio Delay (08:10) - The new Studio Delay plugin includes your standard delay parameters but includes extras such as saturation, modulation, distortion, and pitch to color your delay signal. Plus, you can incorporate different delay patterns with the pattern buttons.
Underwater Plugin (05:15) - Here, we look at the new one-knob Underwater plugin effect, which is a low pass filter effect that emulates the sound of being underwater. So, you see how to use it on you master output as well as on a group bus as a creative automated effect.
AutoFilter Plugin (07:17) - In this video, we walk through the different parameters of the AutoFilter effect and see how you can use it either in Auto or Manual mode. What works really well is using it in manual mode and using a modulator assigned to the range dial to create a different autofilter effect.
DAWproject Support (06:43) - DAWproject is an open exchange format that allows you to collaborate more easily with those using other DAWs. In this video, I show you how to export a project from another DAW and then import it into Cubase, noting what settings get pulled across from the other DAW.
Revamped Score Editor (03:50) - There's been a big revamp to the Score Editor, which now uses technology from Steinberg's flagship scoring application, Dorico. This results in a much cleaner view and access to better tools and functions.
Auto Save Folder (01:07) - Now, Cubase creates an Auto Save folder for all your backup project files. This is a great way of organizing your BAK backup files instead of them residing in the same location as your CPR project files.
